Efforts by mothers and women on Lihir Island in Namatanai District, New Ireland Province, to improve the health and livelihood of their people have gained the recognition and support of the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) and World Bank.

Stakeholder representatives to the first annual general meeting of the Lihir Meri Developmen Senta have been told that women on lihir need only one association to represent their interests and not more than that.

Lihir Meri Developmen Association which is concerned with the cooperation of Women and Youth on Lihir their issues and needs for economic, social and spiritual development through its Meri Development Senta to generate income and profits has a healthy bank account after the first 17 months of operations.
